George C. Boldt was born in 1851 at Dammgartin, on the island of Rugen, in the Baltic Sea. After coming to the United States and working in New York State, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, during which time he opened the Bellevue Hotel in Philadelphia, he also managed others in Philadelphia and New Jersey.
